The Cochrane Arts Club (CAC) is celebrating 55 years as a community art group at its Annual Show and Sale this May 3-4 at the Cochrane RancheHouse.
The main event for the club runs from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. each day and boasts a gallery of some 200 affordable and original artworks from local artists.
“This is our 55th anniversary and we will be inducting two more members as life members — Dixie Edge and Brenda Driscoll,” said club member, AJ Pearson, adding that life memberships are awarded to club members who have belonged for more than 25 years.
The CAC will be doing their part to assist the Cochrane Posse in bringing the RCMP Musical Ride to Cochrane this Sept. 4-8.
Three club artists — Shannon Luyendyk, Anne McGilvary and Lorri Pullman-MacDonald — are each donating a painting to be auctioned off for the Posse’s ‘Adopt-A-Horse’ program, in support of the Musical Ride.
“We have decided to participate and in the program to help take care of one of the horses when the Musical Ride comes to town,” said Pearson, adding that each of the items to be auctioned have a base price of $175.
The silent auction takes places May 3, 10 a.m.-12 p.m. On May 4, the lifetime members will be inducted, along with the winner of the draw for an original painting and the highest bidders for the three works to be auctioned off.
The CAC is currently accepting applications for new members. The group meets on a weekly basis, as well as monthly at the Beaupre Community Hall for a three-day painting weekend of painting.
Throughout the year, the CAC provides opportunities for members to attend formal art instruction workshops.
