The rolling fields and the sustainable mindset behind a Cochrane-area ranch has been caught on film as part of a web series released by Co-op and Canada Beef.

Quarter Circle X Ranch, owned and operated by John and Tracy Buckley is one of three Western Canadian ranches featured in the Raised at Home series. The films were created to give shoppers a glimpse into where and how their beef is provided for Canadian tables.

“This series shows that ranchers and Co-ops have a lot in common — they’re community minded and they care about their work’s impacts,” said Ron Welke, associate vice-president of Federated Co-operatives Limited.

The three-part web series visits as many ranches — one from each of the prairie provinces. The first chapter visits Hudson Bay, Sask., to chat about the importance family plays in operating a successful ranch. From there, viewers are transported to Inglis, Man., to see how proper cattle care results in quality beef.

The final chapter shows the Buckley family out and about on their farm near Cochrane. They talk about how their ranching has evolved over the years, along with the values they place on sustainability.

“Our operation is focused on working with the resources base that the land provides,” said John Buckley.

To keep these resources in tip-top shape and minimize the effect on the land, the family actively manages their cattle, horses and pastures.
