Grade 11 Cochrane High School (CHS) student, Kaleigh Jo Kirk, has got the beat. The Beat100, that is.
The 16-year-old country songstress recently learned that she won the Beat 100 Ultimate Musician Award – a worldwide social network platform for discovered and undiscovered artists.
“I haven’t gotten the opportunity to be played on any local radio stations yet, so the Beat 100 is a great way to share my music and videos with everyone,” enthused the singer/songwriter.
Kirk came out of the musical gates not long after she learned to talk. She continues to work on guitar, piano and voice and released her first demo CD in 2008.
Since then, Kirk has been on the learning curve, forming her identity as a songwriter and releasing singles that have garnered praise from her growing fan base and caused producers to take notice.
When she’s not gearing up to get back in the studios, Kirk is actively pursuing her school studies, including CHS sports and theatre.
Over the next few months, fans can anticipate new material from the country kid.
“I’m planning on releasing three new country songs. Two of those songs will be accompanied by a music video – possibly all three of them will be,” said Kirk, adding that she’s also excited about the recent release of her new website and her new, more mature brand as an artist.
Kirk said when she looks back on herself a year from now she thinks she will feel most accomplished about her growth as a performance artist.
She said she would continue to take her songwriting to new depths and try new styles – expanding from themes of childhood to “boys and trucks”.
