Cochrane High announced top athletic and academic talents at 2025 awards ceremony

Cochrane High School celebrated its graduating class last week by announcing top athletic and academic talents.

The students and faculty of Cochrane High School assembled on June 5 to celebrate the academic and athletic achievements of the graduating class of 2025. 

Parents and community members were on hand at Cochrane High’s award ceremony where dozens of students were honoured and thousands in bursaries and scholarships were doled out to worthy students.  

Thirteen soon-to-be Cochrane High School graduates who have signed to play collegiate sports with Canadian and American universities and colleges were also honoured at the awards ceremony.

Noah Azzaria-Byrne was announced as the Class of 2025 valedictorian, as well as the winner of the academic awards for top student in Physics 30, Math 31 and Math 30-1, English Languages Arts 30, and was awarded three community-based awards. 

Over $24,000 in scholarships, awards, and bursaries sponsored by Cochrane businesses and community groups were given to graduating students. Fifteen students were honoured with community awards sponsored by local businesses and community groups, while nine students were presented with awards commemorating the top marks in each respective main subject.  

On the athletic side of things, the awards ceremony also doubled as an official signing day, where Cochrane High student athletics officially signed with their university and college athletics teams. 

Madison Abougoush will be joining the University of the Pacific to play beach volleyball, Jordyn Derricott will play basketball at St. Mary’s in Calgary, Alexa Voss will attend Montana State University in Billings to play soccer, Elise Hagen will run track and field at Dalhousie University, Erik Solomon will do the same at Trinity Western, Morgan Hill will be joining the wrestling team at the University of Calgary, and Bennett Fauth, Sol Carlson, and Caleb Wetherell will play football at the University of Calgary. 

Emery Stevenson, and Ben Inglis will continue their football careers with the Calgary Colts, and Jacob Conaboy and Tyson Northcott have signed to play football for the Chilliwack Valley Huskers.

Cochrane High also announced its four athletes of the year. Rose Fraser was awarded the top JV Girls athlete of the year, while Elise Hagen was announced as the SR Girls winner. Tyler Zarowny was named the JV Boys athlete of the year, and Rowen Hunt was the SR Boys athlete of the year.
