Cochrane hosts three events on National Indigenous Peoples Day

To celebrate National Indigenous Peoples Day in Cochrane, three events will be taking place at the Station on June 21.

Cochranites can enjoy an afternoon of community connection, with three events taking place at the Station on June 21.

From 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., he Town of Cochrane will celebrate National Indigenous Peoples Day, engage with staff from the RancheHouse to discuss local initiatives, and support social programs in Cochrane through the FCSS and United Way’s ‘Give a Little Love Campaign.’

Last year, the initiative supported 13,000 residents struggling with poverty, mental health, social isolation, domestic violence, intergenerational trauma, and food security.

Manager of family and community support services for the Town of Cochrane, Kim Krawec, said that the Town is excited to bring the community together on National Indigenous Peoples Day.

“Every dollar raised at the ‘Give a Little Love’ event stays here in Cochrane,” Krawec said. “The day is a wonderful opportunity to connect with your community, celebrate our vibrant culture and enjoy fun family-friendly activities, all while making a difference by supporting those who need it most in our community.”

The event will feature a BBQ, a dunk tank, lawn games, and a chance to meet the groups that will receive funding. A tipi will be set up outside of The Station to celebrate the history and heritage of the First Nations, Metis, and Inuit People of Canada.

Inside of the station, residents can connect with Town staff to discuss advocacy efforts, construction projects like the Historic Ranche and Glenbow Pathway improvement project, and water conservation programs.

COLT is also offering free rides anywhere in Cochrane to the downtown area and back with the code: Givealittlelove.

Residents can find more information on the event by visiting www.cochrane.ca/connection.
