Cochrane in Brief

Helping Hands Volunteers

The Helping Hands Society of Cochrane and area has put out a call for volunteers. Each year, Helping Hands connects volunteers with a number of different programs and opportunities which support people and families in the community, including staffing the Free Food Shed, the Caring Neighbours, Newcomer Helpers, Meal Teams and Snow Helper programs. Helping Hands also provides volunteer support for many charities in the area through programs like its annual food drives, which support the Cochrane Activettes Food Bank. Ride for Pride

Cochrane Pride is hosting the biggest spin event of the year, the Pride Ride. On Monday (Aug. 16) at 6 p.m. Cochrane Pride will be on location at The Study, as they lead attendees on the spin bike Pride Ride. The class will be free for all thanks to the generosity of the Study, however registration for the event is still required. Although the program is free, The Study will be accepting donations for Cochrane Pride, which will be used to plan and host Pride Week activities. Get your sweat on at the Pride Ride on Aug. 16. Cochrane Community Awards 2021

The 2021 Cochrane Community Awards will be handed out this year at a ceremony planned for Oct. 3 at the Cochrane RancheHouse. Each year, members of the community are nominated by their neighbours to recognize outstanding local citizens, community leaders, schools, businesses and other organizations who make Cochrane a great place to be. Although the ceremony traditionally takes place in the spring, the decision was made to postpone the event until the fall of this year to get a clearer picture of COVID-19 restrictions that may affect the ceremony.
