Cochrane in Brief

Cochrane Immigrant Services Committee fundraiser

Cochrane Immigrant Services Committee is hosting an online auction in March to raise money for the various initiatives the group organizes throughout the year. This year, instead of approaching businesses for donations to be used as auction items, the group is turning towards the community. The Cochrane Immigrant Services Committee is asking for community members to donate gift cards from local businesses to be used in the fundraiser. No donation is too small, as the prizes may be combined to create a $25 auction item. Donations must be made by the deadline of Feb. 26. Reach out to Candy Weisner at [email protected] to find out how to drop your donation off.

Wear Red Canada Day

On Monday (Feb. 8) Mayor Jeff Genung proclaimed Saturday (Feb. 13) would be “Wear Red Canada Day” in Cochrane. The announcement aligns Cochrane with other communities in Canada to support women’s heart health. Wear Red Canada Day is an initiative put forward by the Canadian Women’s Heart Health Alliance and funded by the Canadian Women’s Heart Health Centre. The annual event is meant to serve as a reminder to Canadians, especially Canadian women, to be mindful and proactive in the maintenance and care of our heart health and wellness. Wear red, or install a red light on your property and support the heart health of millions of Canadian women.

Cochrane animal licensing department experiencing technical issues

The Town of Cochrane is directing people away from their online e-services with regards to the renewal of animal licenses. A notice on the Town’s social media feeds indicates that the licensing renewal fees are not displaying correctly. To pay for a renewal, or if you are having difficulties setting up a new account using the Town’s e-services, contact the Town by phone at 403-851-2500 and ask to be transferred to the animal licensing department.
