The Town of Cochrane lit the Jack Tennant Memorial Bridge in the colours of Ukraine's flag in solidarity.

The Town of Cochrane has signalled its solidarity with Ukraine as the eastern European country continues to defend against a Russian invasion. In an act of support, the Town has illuminated the Jack Tennant Memorial Bridge with alternating blue-and-yellow lights, the colours of the flag of Ukraine.

In a statement made before council on Feb. 28, Mayor Jeff Genung said the decision was to support Ukraine and Ukrainian-Canadians.

“The entire world is watching the situation unfold and like many other levels of government, we are looking to understand what it is we can do,” Genung said. “In support of Ukraine, its people and the Ukrainian-Canadians living in our community, the Town of Cochrane will be lighting the Jack Tennant Memorial Bridge blue and yellow.”
