If Scotland’s ‘favourite son’ was alive today, chances are he’d be heading to the Cochrane RancheHouse Jan. 25 to eat, drink and dance the night away with the Cochrane Pipe Band.

‘Eat haggis and party on’ is the theme of this year’s Robbie Burns Night, and along with enjoying a traditional roast beef dinner with all the trimmings – including, of course, haggis – the Pipe Band will play some brand new sounds.

“The Cochrane Pipe Band will perform their new medley,” said the band’s manager, Leslie Deans, “including some tunes that they learned at the U.S. School of Piping and Drumming in Arizona in 2013.”

Deans said Cabots Crossing, a Celtic band from Western Canada, would then provide the entertainment for the remainder of the evening.

“All of the traditional toasts will be performed along with entertainment by highland dancers,” said Deans. “And, if you enjoy a wee dram, there will be a Scotch tasting.”

Festivities will kick off at 6 p.m., with the dinner soon to follow, catered by Gourmet To Go, and there will also be a live auction during the Pipe Band’s 15th annual Robbie Burns Night.

Touted as its biggest night of the year, the Pipe Band celebrates Robbie Burns Night to recognize the life of Robert Burns, who was born in 1759 and was a poet and lyricist. He is widely regarded as Scotland’s national poet and is celebrated in many countries around the world.

Tickets are available for $75, or eight for $560.

Call Deans at 403-932-7446 for tickets, or visit cochranepipeband.com for more information.
