Following a reported disturbance outside a residency on the Stoney Nakoda First Nation, Cochrane RCMParrested one man and charged him with possessing a plethora of firearms and other weapons.
On August 22, 2025, Cochrane RCMP responded to a report of a disturbance outside of a residence on Stoney Nakoda First Nation. Witnesses reported that windows were being destroyed, and a male was present and armed with a firearm.
Police immediately attended the scene and determined that the suspect had already fled the area. A short time later, police conducted a traffic stop where the suspect was located and safely arrested without further incident.
As the investigation continued, Cochrane RCMP’s Crime Reduction Unit (CRU) obtained and executed a search warrant at the suspect’s residence on Stoney Nakoda First Nation. The search resulted in the seizure of three firearms as well as prohibited weapons.
The suspect, 41-year-old Blaine Baptiste, a resident of Mînî Thnî, has been charged with three counts of unauthorized possession of a firearm, two counts of unauthorized possession of a prohibited weapon, pointing a firearm, careless use of a firearm, possession or a weapon for a dangerous purpose, and mischief.
Baptiste was remanded into custody and is scheduled to appear in Alberta Court of Justice in Cochrane on August 26.
“The quick and coordinated response by our officers ensured that a potentially dangerous situation was brought under control without harm to the public or police,” said Insp. Dave Brunner, Officer in Charge of Cochrane Detachment.
