Cochrane Toyota is putting a call out to Cochranites to stop by the dealership with non-perishable food donations to fill the beds of their Tundras until Jan. 7. The campaign is part of the second annual ‘Prairie Toyota Food Drive’. Those donating will be awarded with a pin card to enter into an online draw for a 2014 Toyota Tundra. From Dec. 5-Jan. 7, participating Prairie Toyota dealerships are looking to fill their respective food bank shelves, to ease the post-Christmas burden.

Local dealership owner, Alex Baum, is beckoning Cochranites to show their support and fill the beds of their 2014 Toyota Tundras with food bank donations for the Activettes Food Bank.

Those who stop by the Cochrane dealership with a non-perishable donation in hand will be given a pin card to enter for a chance to win one of the 2014 Tundras on Jan. 13.

“My goal is to fill three Tundras at the dealership. I would love it if somebody in Cochrane won the truck — what a bonus to hand the keys over to someone right here,” said Baum, adding that they also have a truck parked at the Spray Lake Sawmills (SLS) Centre.

More than 20,000 pounds of non-perishables were raised in last year’s drive; the goal is to surpass this by double. Each participating dealership has committed to a personal donation of $550 worth of food.

Baum has also gotten his entire staff on board.

“Each of our 62 staff members have committed to purchasing one meal for one family,” said Baum.

“Even in a good economy, there’s always someone who won’t have a good Christmas unless someone helps out.”
