Cochrane woman killed in B.C. rockfall

Cochrane woman Laura Tennant was killed in a rockfall in the Kicking Horse Canyon March 5 near Golden, B.C.

The victim in a deadly rockfall near Golden, B.C., was identified as 38-year-old Cochrane woman Laura Tennant. 

Tennant was driving with her family through the Kicking Horse Canyon along the Trans Canada Highway March 5 when their white Jeep was hit by a falling boulder just before 4 p.m. 

She was airlifted to the Kelowna General Hospital where she died from her injuries. She was surrounded by her wife, Lisa, twin sister and parents. 

"Laura was an exceptional human being, respected and loved by everyone she knew," her obituary reads

"She was an avid outdoorswoman, a calming presence and always up for a laugh. She was a loving mother and Lisa's soulmate." 

Lisa and Laura were married on March 7, 2020, on Kicking Horse Mountain. The couple have two children. 

"We are indebted to the many good Samaritans, first responders, emergency room professionals, doctors, nurses and volunteers who so courageously and graciously came to our aid," the obituary reads. "You are heroes one and all!"

A celebration of life will be held at the Cochrane RancheHouse Wednesday, March 16, at 11 a.m. The celebration will also be available virtually.
