They luge, shotgun beer and are willing to travel.
Cochrane’s Lindsay Forsberg and her younger brother Kevin Danforth, of Calgary are putting their personalities and competitive natures to the test, vying for a much-sought-after position on the roster of reality TV show The Amazing Race Canada.
“We just thought it would be fun,” said Forsberg. “And neither one of us had been east of Regina.”
Fun aside, the siblings fully admit to having a competitive side. Forsberg is a former international luge athlete and Canadian champion, and Danforth was a successful lacrosse player. Currently, Danforth is working at an oil and gas company, while Forsberg lives in Cochrane with her husband and daughters, Ashtynn (four) and Ryenn (four months). Right now she’s on maternity leave from her job as a coach for the Canadian Luge Association.
And neither one of them could have chosen a better partner to enter the race with, said Danforth.
“We’ve had our share of scuffles,” said Forsberg with a laugh. “But we even each other out. I’m intense from my competitive nature, and he laughs in stressful situations.”
“And being her brother, I can put her in line without worrying about the consequences,” added Danforth.
To enter, the pair had to put together a three-minute video explaining why they should be a part of Canada’s Amazing Race.
“We wanted to make it simple and really showcase who we are and what makes us different,” said Danforth.
The video documents the two potential racers speaking about their sibling rivalry, their athletic prowess and their travel experience. It’s topped off with Danforth trying his hand at Canada Olympic Park’s luge track and the pair celebrating by downing a beer.
With entries for The Amazing Race Canada now closed, candidates are playing the waiting game. According to the show’s website, the series will be taped prior to the summer, so Forsberg and Danforth said they are hoping to receive a call from the producers sometime within the month.
Maternity leave has left Forsberg with the opportunity to scope out the competition. She said she’s most worried about the submission of BodyBreak couple Hal Johnson and Joanne McLeod, although she said none of the videos stood out as being better than the one she and her brother created.
Unlike the American version of the show, the travelling for The Amazing Race Canada will be limited to within Canada.
