Local foodie haus the Cochrane CookHouse continues to promote health and wellness through a variety of cooking classes this January.
One class being offered, under the instruction of local nutritionist and wellness specialist, Christine Waldner, may hold a particular appeal to the female persuasion — ‘Hormones, Mood and Weight Loss’.
“The attendee who would most benefit from this class would be a female between 25-55, who struggles with constant weight loss problems or yo-yo dieting,” said Waldner.
“Women who feel depressed, irritable, anxious, unhappy and can’t explain why they feel the way they do will also benefit from this class.”
At the core of Waldner’s discussion will be sugar and how to alter your cooking to replace sugar with replacements and natural sweeteners.
Waldner will follow her talk with some basic Thai cooking, with coconut milk the sugar substitute du jour.
She will be discussing healthy eating in general and how poor food choices, combined with lifestyle stresses, impact one’s overall health.
“Women just accept their symptoms and lean to live with them rather than re-balance their bodies,” explained the nutritionist.
“Since we can’t ‘see’ mood or mental health problems, it is more difficult for people to identify and accept it as a cause of their feelings. I want women to be aware of this connection, know it is common and know that it is not something to be ashamed of.”
The program runs Jan. 16 from 6-9 p.m. and the cost is $50 plus GST.
