A community meeting is being held at Springbank Heritage Club to discuss the Cochrane & District Agricultural Society land.
Cochranite Daria Holden is scheduled to speak at the March 7 event addressing Rocky View County’s potential sale of the ag society land, which sits on 145 acres where Highway 1A meets Highway 22 in Cochrane. Holden began the petition against the selling of the ag land earlier this year, with over 900 online signatures to date.
Rocky View County (RVC) Coun. Jerry Arshinoff organized the upcoming meeting and will also be the event’s emcee.
In addition to Holden, there will be approximately 3-4 other speakers to discuss various RVC issues:
- RCMP constable Nathan Moore will be there to talk about crime and crime prevention in RVC.
- Retired Fire Captain Bill Barnden will be in attendance to speak about fire protection and response times.
- Dave Yager of Yager Management Ltd., oilfield service management consultants, will be there to discuss the state of the economy and price of oil.
If there is enough time after each speaker there will also be a brief discussion on the Transportation Offsite Levy and voter’s list.
Of the 18 suggestions RVC councillors received, Arshinoff said he chose the topics based on the number of requests received.
“The topics pertain to all RVC residents and all are welcome,” Arshinoff said in an email.
The community meeting will be hosted at the Springbank Heritage Club on March 7 at 7 p.m. Springbank Heritage Club is located on the East side of Range Road 33, approximately halfway between Springbank Middle School and the Springbank Community High School.
