Cremona School’s annual three-day May Monarch fundraising event gets underway May 23.
Students from Grades 9 through 12 will be for hire to tackle yard work and other odd jobs throughout the community, all to raise money for their respective class’ graduation costs.
“There is lots of value in this event — the students get a lot of support from the community, so this is a chance for them to give back,” said Gary Whitehead, a committee member for the May Monarch fundraiser. “But principally, (the event) is a way for high school students to raise the money for graduation. They start in Grade 9 and raise a little — this continues on each year.”
This is the fourth year for the event. Each year, Whitehead said the fundraiser has collected a total of between $3,000 and $5,000.
May Monarch will take place after school hours — but during daylight hours — on May 23 and 24, while May 25 will see students hard at work all day.
Transportation will be arranged for the hardworking students, but Whitehead said jobs will be limited to Cremona, Water Valley and surrounding area.
