Today (Sept. 24), 26 cyclists will embark on a four-day, 375-kilometre journey from Cochrane through the Rocky Mountains as participants of the second annual Ride Through the Rockies.

Cyclists will travel to Lake Louise and then back to Kananaskis, with all funds raised going to Habitat for Humanity Southern Alberta.

Each participant pledged to raise funds for the charity, with the goal of raising a total of $125,000 to go toward the organization’s affordable housing projects. This event is presented by Star Building Materials and has raised nearly $200,000 to date.

Habitat for Humanity Southern Alberta is a non-profit organization that aims to work toward a world where everyone has a ‘safe, affordable place to live.’

According to its press release, its mission is to mobilize volunteers and community partners in building affordable housing and promoting home ownership as a means of breaking the cycle of poverty.

Since 1990, they have partnered with more than 200 families in Calgary and the outlying communities, and in chapters in Medicine Hat, Brooks, Mountain View County and the Foothills District.
