The deadline to nominate fellow Cochranites for this year’s Cochrane Community Awards is a mere two days away.

Accepting submission until April 12, community awards committee member Rebecka Torn is urging people to get those names in.

“We all know someone extraordinary,” she said. “Now’s the time to nominate them so their contributions can be celebrated.”

Awards will be presented in 12 categories, including Employer of the Year, Citizen of the Year and Newsmaker of the Year.

“Take a look at your neighbours, colleagues, community leaders, local businesses, community groups, schools and seniors for the difference they have made to improving life in Cochrane.”

This year’s highest honour will be awarded the Mayor and Council’s Order of Cochrane award, given to an individual or group that has left a lasting legacy on the community.

Last year’s winner in this category was Gordon Davies, president of the Cochrane Historical Archival Preservation Society.

The awards are overseen by a committee of local representatives that include educators, seniors, businesses, sustainability champions, the Cochrane and District Chamber of Commerce and the Town of Cochrane.

Nomination forms are available at ccawards.ca, at the Cochrane RancheHouse and Family and Community Support Services.

Winners will be announced during an awards presentation on May 26 at the RancheHouse.
