Cochrane’s ‘little person’ race will be hitting the pavement for its fifth year.
Bring your little ones to the annual Diaper Derby Sept. 19 for a fours-on-the-floor race at 11 a.m. in front of Grand Avenue Pharmacy.
“It’s a unique event,” Grand Avenue Pharmacy operations manager Reid Kimmett said with a laugh.
“The (babies) walk, crawl and sometimes sleep on the matt.”
With a three-lane padded racetrack, there will be two divisions with ‘crawlers’ from 0 – 12 months and ‘toddlers’ for ages 12 – 24 months. There is no admission and each participant will receive a ‘swag-bag’, said Kimmett.
Also this will be the first year Grand Avenue Pharmacy will be donating to the Children’s Wish Foundation – for each participant who attends the derby, the pharmacy will donate $2 to the foundation. And for every customer who goes to the pharmacy, another $2 will also be donated.
“I think with the event focused around children we want to support other kids who might be going through something difficult and have their wish come true,” Kimmett said.
Last year had 30 contestants, and Kimmett said they are expecting about the same number for this year.
“It’s one of the best ways to spend a weekend,” Kimmett said.
“I don’t work weekends, but I love working this weekend – watching families coming together and getting to know each other. It’s fun.”
To register for the Diaper Derby, fill out the form found on page 27 of the Sept. 10 Cochrane Eagle and bring it to the pharmacy. Entries can also be done at the store or by calling 403-932-2500.
