It’s shaping up to be a doggone good time this weekend at the Spray Lake Sawmills (SLS) Centre.
The biannual ‘All Breed Dog Show’ is beckoning for bones in support of the Calgary Kennel and Obedience Club (CKOC), encouraging Cochranites to come on down May 9-11 from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. to support anything and everything dog.
“We have a really full weekend planned,” said 20-year club member and show chair, Della Kyncl, adding that the days will be filled with obedience, rally obedience, scent hurdling and of course, all-breed confirmation.
A family event that will take up Totem 1 and 2 at the SLS Centre, Kyncl said it’s the perfect opportunity for families to scope out their next family companion.
“There’s over 100 breeds and more than 500 dogs entered…the dogs are being presented at their best and it’s so fun to watch and see them strut their stuff.”
Produced by a core group of club members, the 60-year-run club began hosting its shows at the Cochrane locale last September; prior to that, shows had been hosted at the Calgary Stampede grounds, which was severely impacted by the June 2013 flood.
“Those folks at the SLS Centre are the best,” enthused Kyncl, an English Cocker Spaniel breeder.
“If you’re looking for a dog breed, it’s the perfect place to go.”
