Cochrane’s Family and Community Support Services (FCSS) and United Way’s funding recommendations — $105,000 in total — were approved by council April 22.
FCSS is providing $30,000 of the total being granted to various social programs in Cochrane.
Of the $75,000 from the United Way, $15,000 comes from local fundraising, with the remaining from Calgary.
United Way Partnership Committee chair Brenda Sine said at total of $153,000 was asked for, and that they hope to have more ‘manpower’ moving into the future.
Organizations receiving funding in 2013 include: All Saints Family Centre Society — The Garage ($4,000); Big Brother and Big Sisters — mPower ($14,750); Boys and Girls Club of Cochrane and Area ($14,750); Cochrane and Area Victim Services ($12,000); Cochrane CookHouse ($9,500); Glenbow Ranch Park Foundation ($1,000); Seniors for Kids Society ($10,000); Seniors on the Bow ($15,000); Tapestry of Women ($1,000); and Western Rocky View Resource Centre ($23,000).
The Cochrane and Area Event Society requested $2,500 and Spray Lake Sawmills Family Sports Centre asked for $6,000, but did not receive any funding as both requests ‘did not fit the mandate.’
Cochrane FCSS chair Linda Derkach was also on hand to present before council.
