Rocky View County (RVC) will soon release the final draft of the County Plan, a document that will outline the direction the county will take as it moves into the future.
“This new County Plan is quite different from the Municipal Development Plan (MDP) we currently use,” said Richard Barss, senior planner and project manager. “The MDP is mainly an evaluation tool used to make recommendations to council. It does not address how we provide services, such as recreation, culture, agriculture and emergency services, the way the County Plan does.”
A final public open house to reveal the new document will take place May 29 from 4:30-7:30 p.m. at the County Administration Building in Calgary.
The County Plan will be available online May 24 and be presented to RVC council June 25.
“Over the past 20 years, our population has grown by 93 per cent, and we need a good plan to address this growth,” said RVC reeve Rolly Ashdown. “I look forward to the final document.”
Development of the County Plan began last year and is to provide direction for the next 10 years. Since June 2012, a series of workshops and online surveys have been available to the public. Last month, the county released its draft County Plan and asked for feedback.
