The cause of the fire that destroyed the shop of a local landscaping company during the early-morning hours of Feb. 20 remains under investigation.

Cochrane Fire Services, along with the help of Springbank firefighters, responded to OnGrowing Works, located on River Avenue, at 1:26 a.m. to find the structure fully engulfed in flames.

Cochrane firefighter Scott Pletsch said the blaze caused some damage to the adjacent building to the north, which is part of OnGrowing Works, melting the eavestrough and some of the plastic siding on the building’s exterior.

Pletsch said firefighters put water on neighbouring structures to avoid fire and heat damage. The fire harmed no other businesses.

Firefighters remained at the scene until approximately 4 a.m., a relatively short time according to Pletsch, who said they had easy access as there was no need to break into the structure through any doors.

With the cause of the fire still unknown, Niki Paisley of OnGrowing Works said the company will rebuild and are continuing business as usual.

“It’s just a hiccup,” said Paisley, adding that no equipment other than some carpentry work was lost due to the fire.
