This year Water Valley Days will be featuring a brand new event that celebrates art and music in the community.

The first-ever How Great Thou Art Market will be held at the Water Valley Church Events Centre on Aug. 9 running in conjunction with Water Valley Days.

“We’re pretty excited about the event,” said Kristine Sarsons, who owns the Water Valley Church Events Centre with her husband Rick.

“We did it just for the love of art and to add to the festivities of the day,” she said.

The art market will feature 10 professional artists with pottery, jewelry, paintings, sculpture and “shabby chic” furniture.

Sarsons said that three of the artists included — Virginia Wilson, Ingrid Vincent and Jane Romanishko — are all regular high-earning participants in the Calgary Stampede Art Show.

Sarsons is a pastel painter herself and said she met a lot of the artists through her participation in various clubs and associations around Water Valley.

She said there will also be music throughout the day featuring local musicians like Celtic harpist, singer and storyteller Jeff Stockton, Jessica and Victoria Pereversoff, and the Swing ‘N’ Blues Quartet.

The former church has become a popular venue for musicians to perform at and for weddings and events.

“It’s unique it’s historic and we put a lot of time and effort to making it beautiful and keep the original feel to it,” said Sarsons.

She said that if this event goes well, it is definitely something she would like to do again next year.

The Water Valley Days market will be running from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
