For the second year running, the Friends of Mitford Education Society will be throwing its fundraising gala.

This year, the students of Mitford School will be providing the entertainment for the aptly named Snowman Stomp Gala.

The event, which is open to the public, is set to run Nov. 16 in the Bow Valley High School gym.

“Even though we’re portables right now — we’re still a great school,” said Julia Grohn, gala chair and president of the Friends of Mitford Education Society. “Events like this help us show what an awesome group of students and supporters we have.”

In preparation for the gala, the students of Mitford School have been working with SoundKreations, a dance- and poetry-focused school residency program.

Each grade learned a stomp-style dance, and the students will put their newly acquired skills to the test at the event, serving as the evening’s entertainment.

In addition to the performances, the event features a 50/50 draw, 10 themed raffle baskets and a silent auction. Grohn said the value of the auction items totals more than $13,000 and includes a dog sled adventure and a ski getaway.

All of the money raised at the gala is put straight back into the school.

“This is how we get all the extra fun stuff that Rocky View Schools can’t get for us,” said Grohn, whose two sons attend the K-8 school.

Last year — the first for the gala — the event raised about $13,000. The money was used to provide Mitford School with 70 iPads, along with helping to revamp the school’s facilities.

Tickets for the Snowman Stomp Gala are on sale now and can be purchased for $20. For more information on the event, or to buy tickets, contact Moneen Wuthrich at [email protected].
