A Cochrane musical festival recently raised the roof and food donations.
The Cochrane Glee Club and Miss Mozart’s partnered together last Sunday to host a musical festival at Seniors on the Bow, asking for food bank donations instead of the typical admission fee.
The festival went “great,” according to organizer Shelley Steele-Gittel.
With over 80 participants, in two hours the groups raised several bags of food donated on Wednesday to the Cochrane Food Bank, run by the Cochrane Activettes.
“We want to ‘be instrumental’ in our community,” Steele-Gittel said over email.
The festival had two choirs, two rock bands, violinists, guitarists, several pianists, a singing trio and some teacher soloists.
Next up for the organizations, stay tuned for free music instrument pop up sessions during the summer while the staff also brainstorms a way to create a “musical lending library.”
“We want to get more instruments into more children’s hands,” Steele-Gittel said.
