Ten thousand down, 10 to go.

Dollars, that is.

The Glenbow Ranch Park Foundation (GRPF) revealed its recent receipt of a $10,000 grant from the BowRivers Edge Campground (BREC); the funds will be used to go toward purchasing a second golf cart for the coming Glenbow Ranch Provincial Park golf tours.

Tara McFadden, GRPF spokesperson, said the golf cart tours, sponsored by Chole Cartwright, rev up again May 19.

Due to growing popularity, the foundation hopes to offer 11 weekly tour slots this year; three weekly tours ran last season.

“We need another $10,000 to purchase a second golf cart and we’re hoping to have it by March 1,” explained McFadden, adding that the foundation is very grateful to BREC for their ‘generous donation’.

“Because we’re trying to buy one of the bigger carts (to seat 8-10 people) our budget is $20,000.”

McFadden said the foundation is always grateful for donations, as seeking cost recovery options remains a priority.

“This really helps to offset our programming costs. What many people aren’t aware of is that we don’t receive operations funding for our programs.”

Previous funds from BREC enabled the foundation to purchase its first electric golf cart last year.

“This is a great example of how BREC supports the community and we’re glad to be able to assist the Glenbow Ranch Park Foundation,” said Steve Cook, BREC president and vice president of the Cochrane Rotary Club, in a recent press release.

Established in 2008, the GRPF is a partner working toward developing the expansive Glenbow Ranch Provincial Park; the foundation works in partnership with the Alberta Government.

The BREC is a not-for-profit that distributes campground proceeds back into the Cochrane community annually, through a variety of grants and bursaries made available to community-based organizations.

McFadden said there would also be private tours available this year at the park.
