Culprits have yet to be caught following graffiti vandalism to property around Cochrane’s Fifth Avenue area.

Extensive ‘tagging’ was done to a number of buildings in the area, including Shoppers Drug Mart, Starbucks, the Cochrane Lions Club and Cochrane Curling Club. The graffiti also strayed onto the Cochrane Lions Rodeo Grounds, where it stained a number of parked trailers.

It is believed the ‘tagging’ was done sometime between Feb. 16 and Feb. 18, said Darren Begg of the Cochrane Lions Club.

“The mischief was done in a very blatant way and we’re looking into video surveillance,” said Cpl. Troy Savinkoff of the Cochrane RCMP detachment. “At this point, we do not have any suspects.”

With surveillance cameras set up at a number of the town’s shops and parking lots, Savinkoff added that one of the cameras is bound to eventually capture an image of the graffiti culprits.

Two suspects have been apprehended following a Feb. 16 break-and-enter at Morley’s Stoney Tribal Chiniki Gas Bar.

Darcy Redcrow and Tasha Simeon, both of Morley, are accused of breaking into the gas station and convenience store, fleeing with an undisclosed amount of money and cartons of cigarettes, said Cochrane RCMP Cpl. Troy Savinkoff.

“Police were able to quickly identify both suspects from video surveillance,” he commented. “One suspect still had cigarettes in possession when they were located.”

The accused were located about five hours after the break-in.
