Cochrane RCMP is asking residents to come forward with any information regarding car prowlings and break-ins that have been occurring in the town’s outlying communities.

On Nov. 26, Cpl. Troy Savinkoff said there had been a number of calls reporting theft of personal items from vehicles in the community of Fireside.

“This type of crime continues to be a big issue for this particular town,” said Savinkoff, adding that police have made arrests in connection to car prowlings and break-ins recently.

“Either these arrests are not acting as a deterrent, or there are just too many people doing it,” he added.

He explained that the target of Cochrane’s outlying communities — such as Heritage Hills, Sunset Ridge, GlenEagles and Fireside — is indicative of some level of organization. Typically this type of break-in occurs in areas in close proximity to a town’s centre because of the ease of walking, he said.

Savinkoff said the vehicles being targeted have either been left unlocked or have had valuable personal items left visible in them.

Cochrane RCMP wishes to remind residents not to leave valuables in their cars and to lock vehicle doors.

Anyone with information regarding these crimes is asked to contact Cochrane RCMP at 403-851-8000.

Cochrane’s emergency crews responded to a two-vehicle collision that occurred at Highway 22 and West Rock Road the evening of Nov. 23. No injuries were reported by the occupants, although one of the vehicles suffered extensive damage.
