Highway 1 closed due to massive grass fire

COCHRANE— A massive grass fire that started on Friday (April 30) evening on Highway 1 near Hermitage Road, west of the Highway 22 junction near Jumping Pound has prompted responses from emergency crews.

COCHRANE— A massive grass fire that started on Friday (April 30) evening on Highway 1 near Hermitage Road, west of the Highway 22 junction near Jumping Pound has prompted responses from emergency crews.

Highway 1 has been closed in both directions, and traffic is being diverted to Highway 22 and Highway 1A.

511 Alberta has issued a traffic advisory telling motorists to avoid the area and expect major delays.

Due to the high winds, visibility is in the area may be limited and the Cochrane RCMP is asking motorists to proceed with caution.
