Some time after 6 p.m. Jan. 8, Rocky View County, Redwood Meadows and Cochrane Fire Services were alerted to a 9-1-1 call from a ranch along Towers Trail, known to be LJ Ranch with reports of a small fire on a porch. When fire crews arrived, the home was already fully engulfed in flames. It took crews over three hours to get the blaze under control, but nothing remains of the ranch home.

A fire destroyed a home at the L.J. Ranch yesterday evening (Jan. 8), located just south of Cochrane.

Cochrane Fire, along with Rocky View County and Redwood Meadows Emergency Services, responded to the blaze, finding the home completely engulfed upon arrival and left with no options than to let the structure burn and attempt to keep it contained.

The home was owned by the Eklund family, which also owns and operates the WineGlass Ranch.

According to a 911 call, the fire started on the home's deck; no one was seriously injured as a result of the fire, but at one point, a Cochrane firefighter rescued a dog that was in its doghouse, which was shortly thereafter destroyed by the fire.

Firefighters battled the blaze for over three hours and continue to monitor for any potential hotspots. Updates to follow as more information becomes available.
