Jumpstart Pedal for Kids stopped in Cochrane last Friday to present $15,000 to the community chapter.
“I think it is fantastic. Jumpstart in general does an amazing job in Cochrane and I am sure this money will go to equally as good purposes to further Jumpstart Cochrane,” said Mayor Ivan Brooker.
The seventh annual event brought more than 70 cyclists to the community last week as the riders rode 500 km through southern Alberta to raise money and generate awareness for Jumpstart, a national charity dedicated to providing kids from low-income families the opportunity to enrol in organized sports.
“I am thrilled, this money is desperately needed by the families in Cochrane,” said Rob Hatch, chairman of the Cochrane Jumpstart chapter.
“Over the winter, there is no question this money will make life a lot better for kids in this town.”
Canadian Tire Jumpstart Charities Pedal for Kids, sponsored by Sport Chek, gave $15,000 to the Cochrane chapter, which has already helped more than 135 kids and has distributed more than $22,000 in the community.
