Ten children will be granted their wishes thanks to the fundraising efforts of the sixth annual Kimmett Cup.

Running Jan. 17 and 18, the yearly shinny tournament reached the goal of raising $100,000 for the Children’s Wish Foundation of Canada. The aim was to benefit 10 children who have been diagnosed with a life-threatening illness.

Included in those 10 is Brendan, a 16 year old from Cochrane, who gave a keynote address at the banquet following the final match.

The tournament is held each year in memory of Lindsay Leigh Kimmett, who died in a car crash in Cochrane in 2008. This year’s event drew 48 teams and about 430 players to play on the ice surfaces at Mitford Pond and Spray Lake Sawmills Family Sports Centre.

Donations to the Children’s Wish Foundation are still being accepted. Visit kimmettcup.com to donate or learn more.
