The 2013 running of the charity tournament, held in support of students from Rocky View Schools (RVS), is looking to add to the $80,000 that has been raised by the event in the past.

“There are so many excellent projects and wonderful ideas that are coming out of our schools,” said Jacquie Mirtle, tournament chair and sports coordinator for RVS. “This will go to fund the special projects that go over and above our budget.”

This year, Mirtle said she’s hoping the tournament will raise about $25,000.

Of the proceeds, 20 per cent will be put towards board-sponsored student awards. The remainder of the collected funds will be put directly into the schools.

In an effort to create an end-of-the-school-year fundraising opportunity, the annual tournament has been moved from August to May. The shift has also enabled students to participate in the tournament for the first time, said Mirtle.

Currently, about 110 golfers are registered.

In addition to hitting the links, the event will provide participants with lunch. A dinner banquet will wrap up the fundraiser. Non-golfers can purchase dinner tickets for $75.

Players can register individually for $175, or as a four-player team for $700.
