Those concerned with logging in the Ghost Valley area will have the ear of Banff-Cochrane MLA Cameron Westhead at a public meeting tonight (Sept. 17).
Westhead will be on hand at Beaupre Community Hall at 7 p.m. to hear people’s concerns about forestry practices, off-road vehicles and random camping. Road use issues will also likely be brought up during the meeting.
Sharon MacDonald, organizer of the meeting, said they’ve been very pleased with Westhead’s receptiveness and their concern about the fate of the valley.
“We’re so pleased that he takes the time to show up both to this meeting and to any social or educational events in the Ghost Valley.
“We find he’s a very good listener. He’s able to put the pieces together and then is able to do his own research to figure out some of these concerns.”
MacDonald said the government’s recent action to stop logging in the Castle wilderness area gives hope that the winds of change are afoot.
“We would like to view the Castle decision as a start in that direction.”
The community is invited to submit topics for discussion in advance. Those interested in attending are asked to RSVP via email to [email protected].
