An elderly woman has died and another three people have been taken to hospital after a serious two-vehicle collision north of Cochrane on Oct. 5. Emergency crews were called to the scene of the collision where an SUV and a minivan collided head first.around 1:15 p.m. near the intersection of Highway 22 north of Highway 274. A female driver, a 71-year-old and the sole occupant of the SUV, was pronounced dead at the scene. The minivan was carrying a woman and three youth. STARS Ambulance airlifted the female driver of the van to hospital with serious, life threatening injuries Two children in the van, an 11-year-old and a 14-year-old suffered non-life threatening injuries. One was transported to hospital by EMS and the other was treated at the scene and released. Brideaux said three ambulances – two from Cochrane and one from Calgary – were sent to the scene. No further details are available. RCMP continue to investigate.
