Cochrane RCMP had their hands full Jan. 11, as a pair of moose wandered the streets of Cochrane’s East End community.

Mounties were alerted to the wild, four-legged duo hanging out in the area of First Street and Carolina Drive after four separate 911 calls at about 3 p.m.

Upon attending the scene, officers found one adult moose and her offspring. Cpl. Mel Calahasen said the pair had become separated during their in-town adventure. He reported that the older animal had charged at passersby.

“Working in conjunction with Alberta Fish and Wildlife, the moose were tranquilized and removed from the town of Cochrane without injury,” said Calahasen.

The moose were released back into the wild northwest of Cochrane, near the Bar C Cattle Ranch.

They may not have been rounding up wildlife, but RCMP were kept busy Jan. 13 as Cochrane and the surrounding area was hit with high winds and snow.

Highways and roads deteriorated as the storm progressed.

Calahasen said the detachment reported six car accidents within the town of Cochrane, and another four were reported rurally.

Although vehicles were damaged, Calahasen said no major injuries were reported at any of the crash scenes.
