The early bird gets the worm.
At least that is what owner of the new caf
é/lunch truck Morning Bird Catering Inc., Angela Admussen says.
“I am a big bird lover and I wanted something in the name that showed the early bird always gets the worm, ” Admussen said with a laugh.
The new lunch truck rolled out on the streets last week with a specific route that specializes in food service for construction zones and industrial areas.
Owner/operator of the truck, Admussen said she was working in the construction industry for about a year when she realized there was a huge lack of food service and was inspired to start a lunch truck.
“I basically saw a need for food service in construction zones and saw there was an opportunity there, ” Admussen explained.
After months of research, talking with individuals at different construction sites, industrial areas, and even speaking to other couples who run similar trucks in other communities, the fourth generation Cochranite decided to purchase the truck and start Morning Bird Catering Inc.
“We got a permit from the Town of Cochrane, and had to get signatures from private land owners and we launched last week, ” Admussen said.
The truck currently has nine stops where it offers hot and cold dishes including fresh salads, breakfast sandwiches, vegetable trays, and weekly features such as mac and cheese.
“So far it has been excellent - we've had really good feedback from the customers and every day we get a little bit better than the last day, ” Admussen said.
The Morning Bird Catering truck will be the third participant in the Cochrane Mobile Food Vendors pilot program, along with Grilled and Awko Taco - but the owner said her mobile food service differs from the other existing food trucks.
“We have a scheduled route and focus on specific business and construction sites, ” Admussen explained.
“Right now we might have room in our schedule to add a couple business stops. ”
The town launched the program last fall and according to the website, the program is set to run until December when administration will implement a permanent mobile food vendor policy and regulations.
The town will be hosting a Food Truck Bylaw open house on Sept. 29 from 5 - 7 p.m. at the Visitor Information Centre, located at 521 First St. W. Visitors will be able to learn more about the proposed bylaw, the process to become a food truck, survey results and bylaw approval process.
