Know a Cochrane youngster who qualifies as a great kid? Then nominate him or her for the Alberta government’s Great Kids Awards.
The Great Kids Awards recognize young leaders aged 5-18 for helping, inspiring and changing the lives of others. Previous nominees have done everything from organizing fundraisers to showing leadership against bullying.
Last year’s winners included a six-year-old girl who gave a homeless man the money she’d saved to buy herself a toy and a 13-year-old boy who organized a 12-hour street hockey game that raised $11,000 to construct a well and latrine at an African school.
This year’s award winners will receive a trophy, prize package, and an invitation to a special awards ceremony sponsored by Fantasyland Hotel in Edmonton. All nominees will receive a certificate signed by the provincial Minister of Human Services Irfan Sabir.
Anyone can nominate a great kid for the award. Nominators must submit a description of why they think the young person deserves the award and two letters of support.
Deadline to nominate a “Great Kid” is Nov. 27.
