Cochrane RCMP and CP Rail are investigating an incident near the train tracks by the Hwy 1a and Hwy 22 intersection. After 8 a.m. this morning, a man, believed to be 40 years old, was spotted by a CP Rail train conductor. Police confirmed the man to be dead, though no confirmation as to how he died. RCMP will not be releasing the deceased's name. "We received a call from CP Rail at 8:30 today. Upon arriving we located a deceased male in close proximity to the tracks," said Cpl. Troy Savinkoff. "We're still investigating to determine how this male died. We still haven't come to a conclusion that the train was related though we're certainly investigating that." Savinkoff said RCMP have a tentative identification of the man but are still waiting for further confirmation. Mallory McCredie, media relations advisor with CP Rail said the investigation will be held jointly between RCMP and CP Rail. One witness, Claire Koob, said she was near the Fas Gas around 8 a.m. this morning when she saw an eastbound train screech to a stop. "We saw it moving at its normal pace and then wheeling to a stop and then the alarms were blaring, blaring and everything like that," Koob said. "We knew something was up."
