As the Sept. 12 registration deadline for the annual Outhouse Races approaches, Heavenly Outhouse owner and event organizer Karrie Peace is encouraging new entrants and creative designs this year.
The Outhouse Races, a long-celebrated community event, are taking place this Sept. 24 in Historic Downtown at 10 a.m.
Boasting colourful and creative outhouses vying for the $500 prizes for fastest and funniest, the event was cancelled last year due to rain.
“It’s all about having fun and raising money for the Activettes food bank,” said Peace, adding that she is working on “Plan B” in the event of heavy rains.
Peace said she currently has around 16 outhouses registered and is confident there will be more to come, but did note the impact of the economic downturn has had on the event – which will not see the return of some previous contestants. Sponsors for the event are Global Pet Foods (with a fire hydrant-shaped outhouse) and the Texas Gate. For more details contact Peace at 403-932-9288.
