Big Hill Haven jumped more then $10k closer to its goal of building a women’s shelter in town.
Last week, Shoppers Drug Mart donated $12,642 to the charity following a four-week campaign – the SHOPPERS LOVE.YOU. The program, held in the fall, raises funds through the purchase of the Growing Women’s Health paper icons.
“It’s tremendous,” said Faith Brace, Big Hill Haven board member. “Such great support.”
The board has so far raised $150,000. They hope to one day build up enough to build a facility and have it operational.
The Shoppers campaign was a nation-wide effort that will see over 500 women’s health charities across Canada benefitting from the 2018 campaign’s proceeds. All of the funds raised locally will stay in the community.
Since 2002, the Growing Women’s Health campaign has raised more than $35 million for Canadian health charities.
“We’re thrilled with the success of the 2018 Growing Women’s Health campaign. Each year, our customers and staff demonstrate their generosity and their commitment to supporting women in our community, and we couldn’t be more proud of everyone’s contribution,” said Leithe Holowaty, pharmacist/owner. “Big Hill Haven Women’s Shelter is about to play an important role in our community and the proceeds from this year’s campaign will go a long way to helping them reach their goals.”
