The Bragg Creek Community Centre is offering a new Parkour program this fall.
“We really wanted to offer something unique that will spark the interests of youth in the area and get them out and being active,” Shaye Radford, Bragg Creek Community Centre’s program co-ordinator explained.
The eight-week program, partnered with Breathe Parkour, comes to the hamlet after several requests for a parkour program, the co-ordinator said.
“We had some pretty good support before the building flooded and we are hoping to be able to still reach those families who were interested,” Radford said.
With a history in military obstacle training, Parkour involves, running, climbing, swinging, vaulting, jumping, rolling and quadrupedal movement.
The program is partnering with Breathe Parkour, which will bring trainers and equipment while the youth will also be utilizing the gym at the community centre, as well as natural objects around the property, the co-ordinator explained.
This program will be one of three youth programs offered in Bragg Creek. The other two programs are run in partnership with the Boys and Girls Club of Cochrane and Area – Torch Club, a program to get preteens engaged with the community, and Junior Chefs, teaching youth how to safely cook healthy meals.
“We are hoping with these programs there will be more options for the youth to play where they live,” Radford said.
Registration for the program has opened. The Parkour program is for kids and youth ages 6 to 15. Participants will be spilt into two age groups and each group will get an hour and a half each week.
The program starts on Sept. 27 and runs to Nov. 15. For more information go to braggcreekca.com.
