Whether its running 250 marathons in a year, or climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro, Martin Parnell is a man who’s always pushing himself to test his limitations, set records and tops lists.
But for writing a book?
It’s just another ranking Parnell can lay claim to, as his 2012 release Marathon Quest made CBC’s “5 Alberta authors to add to your New Year’s reading list.”
“Really, all I do is run,” remarked Parnell with a laugh. “This whole book process itself was brand new to me. I was thrilled to be included on the list.”
Marathon Quest, which is published by Rocky Mountain Books, chronicles Parnell’s transformation into the ‘Marathon Man’ and offers advice to anyone looking to push themselves to accomplish their goals.
“The story doesn’t date,” he said. “It shows that an ordinary person can give it a go and do something extraordinary.”
Also included on the list was The Dilettantes by Michael Hingston, Chris Turner’s The War on Science, Come Barbarians by Todd Babiak and Olga Hendrikoff’s A Countess in Limbo (which was edited by Sue Carscallen.)
Although no dates have been confirmed, Parnell said he has a second book in mind.
Until then, Parnell is keeping busy training for his next quest: the Rotary Coastal Quest 630. The ninth leg of his 10-challenge Quest For Kids, the Rotary Coastal Quest will see Parnell running 630 miles around the southwestern peninsula of England.
