A portion of River Heights Drive is expected to be closed in the near future so that the road can be widened, as the Town of Cochrane has determined there is a surplus of land in the road’s right-of-way.
Following the completion of the design for the widening of the road, the town also established that only 27 of the 30-metre right-of-way was required to enlarge the road.
The portion of the road closure comes to a width of 1.795 metres and spans a total area of .11 hectares and will be redesignated as a residential part of The Willows of River Heights neighbourhood and used as frontages of homes lining the south side of the road.
The town’s internal review revealed no significant concerns or conflicts with the portion of land being redesignated, Alberta Transportation had no objections and information on the bylaw amendment was circulated to internal departments, external agencies and adjacent landowners.
Though Cochrane council and the minister of transportation have both approved the closure, Lisa Nail, a development planner with the Town of Cochrane, said the road would not be formally closed until the package is sent to and registered with the province’s Land Title office.
