Following an open house March 4, the Cochrane Golf Club is awaiting final approval from the Town of Cochrane before construction can begin on its proposed 18-hole miniature golf course.

Push the images of classic mini-golf design out of your mind; the golf club isn’t interested in tricky windmills or clown faces. Once finalized, the mini-golf course will be incorporate tasteful landscape and professional design aesthetics.

“All 18 holes have already been designed,” said Eric Kauffmann, general manager of the golf club. “We’re ready to go in terms of building and construction.”

If approved, the course is slated to open over the Canada Day weekend, said Kauffmann.

The proposed course is expected to be constructed directly west of the clubhouse. The development would take up less than an acre of land. Kauffmann said the construction plans include a buffer zone from residents’ yards.

“Mini golf is a fun way to spend time with your family,” said Kauffmann. “Plus it’s a great way to introduce the game of golf.”

The mini-golf course, which would be manufactured in the United States, would be similar to the current miniature course located at the Crystal Ridge Golf Club in Okotoks.

Kauffmann declined to comment on the cost of developing the miniature greens, but said he expects the course to pay for itself within a year of its operation.
