A power outage that occurred the evening of July 7 affected some 4,000 Cochranites.
Those living near the downtown core and stretching north of Cochrane, along Highway 22 went without power from 9:15 p.m.-10:10 p.m.
According to Jennifer MacGowan, spokesperson for electricity provider Fortis Alberta, “a crow came into contact with a power line and created a fireball, causing another line to fall.”
Birds account for some 20 per cent of all power line disturbances, with the majority from May through September caused by lightning.
Winter power outages are largely the result of ‘extreme weather conditions.’
