Suspects still wanted for “odd” break and enter.
On April 10, a dog started barking and growling around 1 a.m. alerting the homeowner of the two strangers in the family home in Fireside.
“The two men left immediately upon being confronted – nothing was stolen or damaged,” Cpl. Troy Savinkoff explained.
“It’s an odd type of home invasion.”
The intention of the suspects is unknown and the incident is still under investigation.
Despite the “odd” home invasion last week, RCMP said crime is actually down in Cochrane.
“Crime is way down globally. Everything is down property crimes are down, theft is down,” Cpl. Troy Savinkoff said.
“The call volume is about half of what is was versus two months ago.”
But even with having a lower call volume, the corporal said they are still receiving calls with reports of break and enters and vehicles thefts “here and there” and they want to remind people to lock their doors for their homes and vehicles.
“The number one things is unlocked doors, it is crimes of opportunity. Not everyone is going to break a window to get into something but if it is unlocked, it can make it easier for a thief,” Cpl. Troy Savinkoff explained.
“People can protect themselves by locking their doors and leaving valuables out of site.”
