RCMP Notebook: Fatal crash closes down highway; theft suspect sought

A fatal crash closed down Highway 1A on Feb. 28. Cochrane RCMP responded to a single vehicle rollover this past Sunday at 7:30 a.m. on Highway 1A, eight kilometres west of the Morley town site.

A fatal crash closed down Highway 1A on Feb. 28.

Cochrane RCMP responded to a single vehicle rollover this past Sunday at 7:30 a.m. on Highway 1A, eight kilometres west of the Morley town site. Upon arrival they found the passenger, a 23 year-old female from Morley, partially ejected from the vehicle. The passenger was announced deceased at the scene and next of kin have been notified.

There was a 22 year-old male from Morley, who was identified as the driver. He was transported to Foothills Medical Centre with upper body injuries.

Cochrane RCMP were assisted by RCMP reconstruction collision analysis and member from RCMP crime collision investigative team.

Alcohol is believed to be a factor, as blood samples were taken at the hospital, and charges are pending.

Cochrane RCMP is seeking the public’s assistance in identifying a female suspected of committing theft.

On Feb. 15 at around 2:13 p.m., approximately $200 worth of jewelry was stolen from Poor David’s Gift Shop on 1 Street West in Cochrane.
