Cochrane RCMP is issuing a warning to residents to not leave garage door openers in vehicles, as this could offer the perfect opportunity for someone to gain entry into a home, which has occurred twice during the past week.

The first break and enter took place Nov. 8 at approximately 3 a.m. in Cochrane’s West Valley area.

Suspects removed a garage door opener from the victim’s unlocked vehicle that was parked in the driveway, entered the house through the garage and proceeded to attempt to steal items from the home with the residents sleeping inside.

The culprits fled the home once the residents woke when the suspects were in the process of removing the television.

Cpl. Mel Calahasen urged residents to remove their garage door openers from their vehicles, and instead keep them in their homes.

The culprits are believed to be driving a light, silver or white coloured Chevrolet/GMC model SUV.

The incidents are still under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to contact Cochrane RCMP at 403-851-8000 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
